Going back to Coli: Thursday notes

0
0

Forgot to blog up some of this Wednesday night. Which is OK, because (a) lots of stuff happened early Thursday, and (2) one of those stuff was a Twitter revamp, which forced me to do geometry before noon, so I needed all the rest I could get. Anyway.

The Big Club is going back to Nassau Coliseum. For a day. Preseason game. Sept. 17. (Bright ‘n’ early.) The full preseason schedule includes a game in Allentown, announced down there Wednesday, as well as the game in Bridgeport against the Rangers on Sept. 22, previously announced.

Portland joins the ECHL in a year, actually the reborn Alaska Aces, which is a heck of a trip. Daniel Briere will run the team for the Flyers.

As the Tribune was reporting for almost a month, Ulf Samuelsson has left the Checkers for the Blackhawks’ staff; Don Granato joins him, too. Quite prepared for that eventuality*, then, Charlotte already has its man, Mike Vellucci:

TEAM Old New
RCK Ted Dent (4/25)  Jeremy Colliton (5/18)
UTI Travis Green (4/26 – VAN)
HFD Ken Gernander (5/16)  Keith McCambridge (6/12)
ROC Dan Lambert (5/26)
CHI Craig Berube (6/7 – STL assoc. 6/15)  Rocky Thompson (6/7)
PRO Kevin Dean (6/13 – BOS ass’t)
CHA Ulf Samuelsson (6/15 – CHI ass’t) Mike Vellucci (6/15)

The Blackhawks also added Sheldon Brookbank to Jeremy Colliton’s staff in Rockford on Wednesday.

And speaking of Chicago — the other one — former Wolves coach Craig Berube is now officially a Blues associate coach. Former Sound Tigers forward Daniel Tkaczuk moves up from the Wolves to the Blues as well.

Bruce Garrioch reports that Matt O’Connor, so highly regarded out of BU a couple of years ago, won’t get a qualifying offer from the Senators. (Yeah, it’s that time of year. They’re due June 26.)

Matt Batten of Shelton, St. Joseph and Quinnipiac was drafted by the San Diego Padres.

And RIP, Jim Hall and Rob Sullivan.

*-Seriously didn’t realize I was quoting George until it was on the screen…
